This author guide is an addition to the “Call for New Abstracts” informational text published on the 2nd COTEC-ENOTHE Congress 2021 website. Please read it before proceeding to your abstract submission in Exordo at

Instructions for abstract submission

Please read the following guide carefully, as you will only be able to make changes to your author infor­mation data and abstract submission content until the end of the submission period (January 22, 2021 – 23:59 CET). After this period no changes are possible. It is the author's responsibility to submit correct information.

Abstract must be in English and typed single-spaced. Use standard abbreviations and symbols. Keep abbreviations to a minimum and define each one when it is used for the first time. The abstract should not exceed 200 words, inclusive of the title (not more than 20 words).

Abstracts are not necessarily research papers that have been submitted for publication in a journal, but rather should be seen more as a review paper in which personal views are acceptable if supported by evidence.

Please note that COTEC-ENOTHE encourages first-time presenters. Perfect English is not essential but meaning needs to be clear and the abstract should be well structured and logically argued. Scoring criteria done by independent reviewers will ensure that quality of writing is scored separate to the educational value of the abstract.

Submission deadline

The abstract submission deadline was extended till January 22, 2021 – 23:59 CET. No late submission will be accepted

Type and Format

After selecting the area of practice, research and/or education the author can choose from following different formats to contribute to the congress:

An Oral Presentation: An oral presentation of 15 minutes max., possibly supported by slides (maximum of 10 slides) with introduction, methodology, results and conclusion and 5 min. extra to answer questions and discuss. Projects should be related to the themes (see topics) of the congress.

Poster: A poster can physically present all forms of reports like research, practice experience, case studies or projects supported by figure and graphics with an introduction, methodology, results and conclusion and discuss points. Posters should be related to the themes (topics) of the congress. Ensure your poster is clear and attractive. The text should be large enough to be read from 1,5m distance; size ISO A0, vertical orien­tation.

Workshop: A workshop presentation is a session of 60 or 90 min. A workshop is a planned session aimed at helping determine the direction of a field and is considered a session and meeting at which a group of people engage in intensive discussion and activity to work on and contribute to a particular prefixed or own chosen subject or project.

Seminar: A seminar is a conference meeting of 60 min. for training; a (master)class in which a topic is discussed by a leading expert, teacher or facilitator and discussed by (sub)groups of participants.

Round Table Discussion: A Round table is a 60 min. form of academic discussion. Participants agree on a specific topic to discuss and debate. Each person is given equal right to participate, as illustrated by the idea of a circular layout referred to in the term round table. E.g. round table discussions are also a common feature of (political) talk shows.

Make sure to indicate the type of submission you wish to submit in and to follow the specific format for each presentation/submission type:

Oral presentation and Poster presentation:

Research based abstracts: Background, Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusions.

Education related abstracts: Background, Philosophy or theory, Pedagogy/educational approach(es) used, Evaluation, Application to Research and/or education

Practice based abstracts: Background, Theoretical underpinning (e.g. PEOP/MOHO/CMOP-E), Assessment/Intervention/Technique, Evaluation of outcome, Application to practice

Workshop, Seminar and Round Table Discussion:

Summary outlining purpose, Rationale, Objectives, Session format, Three learning outcomes,

Maximum number of participants, Brief description of intended participants.


You will be asked to categorize your abstract in one of the following topics of the congress:

  • Resilience definitions and concepts
  • Measurement of resilience
  • Developing resilience
  • Physical resilience
  • Mental resilience
  • Emotional resilience
  • Social resilience
  • Resilience in education
  • Interventions for enhancing resilience /Resilience programmes
  • Resilience and multidisciplinary approach
  • Resilience and family

Author information

The number of authors has no limitations, but first authors should be first presenters and the number of presenters is limited to two persons.

Key words

An author of the abstract must also give/produce at least one (or a maximum of up to three) relevant keyword(s). Recommended keywords are listed.

The 2nd COTEC-ENOTHE CONGRESS 2021 seeks to bring together individuals from around the world examining the conference theme “Occupational Therapy Europe – building resilience in individuals, com­mu­ni­ties and countries” from various perspectives. Therefore, an important factor in selection is programme balance. After the review process The Congress Scientific Committee will seek such balance in:

  • Research, practice, professional issues and education
  • The varied practice areas
  • Range and significance of topics
  • Level of expertise
  • Interests covered
  • Relevance of the abstract to the needs of the Congress themes - Clear and concise description of the paper/poster/workshop presentation, conveying the paper’s importance and significance in the field
  • Evidence of a high standard of research and/or education and/or practice (where applicable)
  • High quality of writing

Review process

In addition to an assessment of the abstract, reviewers will also be asked to consider the extent to which the submission aligns with the conference themes and aims of the congress which seeks to bring:

  • High quality and exciting conference attendees
  • Reflecting innovation and diversity of research, practice, professional issues and education
  • Sharing knowledge, the results of research and professional experience learned on resilience
  • Discussing strategies addressing the challenges and barriers of resilience enhancing and building
  • Identifying and discussing best practices and experiences in building individuals‘, communities‘ and countries‘ resilience

Peer review process

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed independently by at least two peer reviewers. The aim of this process is to ensure a high-quality programme of presentations and a lively, informative congress. We welcome interesting, well designed and well conducted works. The main focus of peer review process is the extent to which submissions meet the criteria for quality, relevance and importance.

Reviewers are asked to mark abstracts using the full range of scores stated for each of the criteria. Each criterion has a score range with 1 being the lowest, and higher scores representing higher quality abstracts (e.g. 1=poor, 5=excellent). Authors will be notified in February 2021.

Abstracts will be evaluated by a team of reviewers according to each of the following criteria:

  • The abstract submission deadline is January 22, 2021. No late submission will be accepted.
  • Abstract should not exceed 200 words
  • Relevance, currency, appropriateness and significance of the topic/issue/problem
  • Theoretical orientation (Education or research) and/or practical application to the field
  • Originality
  • Substantial information that is appropriate to the content.
  • Educational Value
  • Quality of Written Abstract
